The service I provide for a couple is first and foremost a safe and supportive environment where both individuals can freely express their thoughts and feelings concerning what is not working in the relationship. I also provide teaching skills in learning more effective listening and communication techniques to help strengthen the relationship. I would also have the couple establish their particular goals for the relationship, along with identifying possible individual goals they might want to accomplish that might help heal the relationship. It is important to explore with a couple what aspects of the relationship they each hope to see change with coming to therapy.
